The NPI Engineer is responsible for leading the transition of new products from development to scalable mass production, ensuring manufacturing readiness, quality, reliability, cost efficiency, and on-time delivery.
The role serves as a key interface between R&D, operations, manufacturing, quality, and supply chain, driving cross-functional execution throughout the NPI lifecycle.
Key responsibilities
NPI & Manufacturing Readiness
- Lead end-to-end NPI activities from product design through production release and ramp-up.
- Own manufacturing readiness, including processes, documentation, tooling, equipment, and test infrastructure.
- Drive structured transfer to production (TTP), ensuring smooth handover to manufacturing operations.
- Lead production ramp-up and process stabilization, meeting quality, yield, cost, and schedule targets.
Manufacturing Engineering & Industrialization
- Participate in design reviews and drive design for manufacturability (DFM) and design for assembly (DFA).
- Define manufacturing processes, assembly methods, work instructions, tooling, and fixtures.
- Collaborate with R&D and Test engineering to establish production testing and system integration processes.
- Support manufacturing infrastructure, automation, and production scalability.
Configuration & engineering changes
- Ensure accurate BOM’s, product revisions, manufacturing documentation, and configuration traceability.
- Coordinate ECO implementation and engineering changes throughout the NPI lifecycle.
Supply chain & contract manufacturing
- Lead engineering activities with contract manufacturers and suppliers, including knowledge transfer, process implementation, and manufacturing readiness.
- Collaborate with procurement and supply chain to address material risks, component availability, and alternative sourcing.
- Support supplier qualification and production capacity expansion.
Quality & Continuous Improvement
- Identify and mitigate technical, manufacturing, and operational risks.
- Lead manufacturing-related root cause investigations and corrective actions during NPI and ramp-up.
- Support FAI, process validation, and production qualification.
- Drive improvements in quality, yield, cycle time, and manufacturing cost.
